The best open competitions
Question:
I’m looking to compile a list for my homebrew club of open competitions in Canada and the US that are well run and well judged in order to provide us with some knowledgeable feedback on our brews. Anyone care to put forward their Top 10 list of open competitions? Bonus points if you can provide web sites or contact info. Thanks, Brian

Brian, Unfortunately I can’t help you put one on your list, but failing that I can at least cross one off it for you. You can forget about the one in Ottawa held by CAMRA if what you are really after is some knowledgeable feedback on your beers. That’s not to say the club doesn’t have good brewers or anything of the sort, but their competitions are sort of "free-style" and not the place to go if you are looking for input from a qualified set of tastebuds, for example. Their competitions are run as "readers’ choice" in that any joe off the street can walk in and judge. Though that method does have its merits, it also has its downsides and this is one of them. cheers, -alan — — "It must be light, because our Brewmaster says that the colour is a sign of Quality: The lighter a K
