Suggestions for a starter?
Question:
Go to your local homebrew shop and buy a "tru-brew" (or similar) kit. It has everything you’ll need for the 1st batch except a boil pot (you do have a big spaghetti pot, right?) Then go to www.brewery.org and follow the links to the library and download a couple of the beginner texts. Good luck, Dan Cole

Hello, I’ve been considering buying a home brew kit for a while now. I was actually about to plop down some cash for the beermachine (beermachine.com) when I happened upon your newsgroup. After reading for a few days, it appears that beermachine might not be the way to go. Anyone have any suggestions for someone starting out (where to get started) and how much money will I need to do it properly? Any advice will be much appreciated. By the way, this has to be the most civilized newsgroup I’ve been to… Kevin

Kevin, Look in the Yellow Pages for your local homebrew supply store, or one that is the closest to you. Pick a weekend and browse the shop and talk to the owner/store attendant. He/she will be more than happy to assist you in picking a starter brewing kit for your first brew session as well as a good starter brewing book and recipe. The money spent on a homebrew supply kit will give far greater rewards in the long run. Starter kits start around 50 dollars (US). You should be able to pick a beer style in kit form for under $20. You can purchase a 7 gallon canning pot from Wal-Mart or Kmart until you decide to invest in something better. Colin D. — http://www.goforsyth.com/bloominonion/index.html

If there’s no local homebrew shop, there are many good mail order companies Wind River Brewing (suburb of Minneapolis) has a very nice starter kit for $50 that comes with your first beer kit. I’ve been very happy with mine. http://www.windriverbrew.com Joel – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Kevin, Look in the Yellow Pages for your local homebrew supply store, or one that is the closest to you.
