4 BEERS PM KICKED BOOTIE TODAY
Question:
I have had the same experience after drinking beer the night before a run. Even if I felt bad on waking up – the run itself would turn out phenomenal. I have noticed this on a few occasions but thought it was just in my head. Interesting. If I drink beer it is usually three or fewer. DT

: It was very relaxing, but I haven’t : tried it again, mostly because I usually run in the morning and it’s hard : for me to drink beer for breakfast. You must need to become more disciplined! I’ve run an easy run with beer in my gullet, but I suspect anything with intensity would become very uncomfortable or at least fraught with injury risk. (I do most of my speed work on dirt; track might make it a lot safer, but I’m not gonna down a Guiness and then try it just to find out.) __/__, Perpetual Motion …… Bend, Oregon ……. I remember several years ago I was training for a marathon. One afternoon, I stopped off after work and had four or five beers with some friends. I then remembered that I had wanted to do a fifteen mile run that afternoon. It wasn’t so bad, except I peed down my leg. Even that wouldn’t have bothered me, except I also had a bowel movement in my shorts during my run. It seemed bigger than it actually was.

I once had a large salad and ran shortly after and damn near had the same problem. The ruffage can cause this every time ! I ended up walking home as to avoid the jouncing that I knew would lead to a problem ! Also you had too much liquid in your stomach to be taking on this kind of run. I’m referring mostly to beers being consumed night before run not just before run ! The body can only absorb liquids so quickly and when you put in couple of quarts at a time (4-5 beers) then go out running, hey what did you expect !!!!! Kevin

I have found myself to get very dehydrated on my Sat. long runs if I drink the night before. So I drink along with alot of water. He mentions no ill effects on a three mile run, but keep up the H2O intake in the 90 degree heat even on shorter runs. Remember the rule: One water bottle every 30 minutes. (that’s just my own rule of thumb, take it or leave it) Michael
