Water-Iron Removal

Categories: Home Brew

Question:

: I am looking for an inexpensive way of removing iron (approx. 2.5 ppm) : from my water for brewing. : Softening is used, but causes complications in the brewing process. Have you tried filtering through activated carbon?  I believe it will remove some iron and will also help reduce/remove chlorine as well.

I have iron, Sulfer, and hardness.  I have two filters.  One is the softner, which is suppose to also remove some iron.  The other is an iron and sulpher filter.  I bypass the softner when I brew, and only let the water pass thru the iron/sulfer filter for brewing.  Kind of expensive for brewing, but I needed it for the rest of the house anyhow. — Sysop – Home Brew University BBS   Brew City Campus       414-238-9074 Genealogy Search:  Brickner, Kane, Kimbro, LaClaire, Snyder|Snider,                    Seecs|Seetch|Sich, and Thorton.   Visit my homepage for more …          http://www.execpc.com/~jkane
