pepsi kegs
Question:
I have just been given two pepsi kegs and a CO2 tank . Are these what you call corny kegs? (they say cornelius on them) The CO2 tank still has gas in it, and it hasn’t been used in years. Is there a chance the gas could go stale or something, or will it store indefinately? Also does anyone know a website where i can learn the basics of kegging homebrew and buy the lines and fittings to connect the gas to the keg? Is there a tap made just for these kegs? Thanks, Mike D.

If pressurized it will be OK. I would however, recommend you have the tank hydro tested and refilled. Hydros are due every 5 years. Date of the last hydro is stamped on the shoulder of the tank Also does anyone know a website where i can learn the basics of kegging homebrew and buy the lines and fittings to connect the gas to the keg? There’s an article on our web site. You can also try the brewery website for information on kegging. Just about any homebrew shop can get you started with the right connections hoses and info to begin kegging. You must have good friends! Yes, that’s a corny tank, although it doesn’t necessarily have to be made by cornelius to be called that. They just made gazillions of them. Most of the home brew shops have all the fittings you need. If you don’t have one near you, try William’s Brewing in Berkley California. I don’t shop much on the internet, but I believe there’s a ton of folks who post here regularly who sell that stuff. One guy I’ve seen has mention of the tanks in his sig file for $12, so I’d expect a reply from him! The CO2 should be fine. If there is any contamination in the bottle, you won’t know it until you have a problem, or have it hydro’d. I lost a bottle to the Hydro tester recently when they reported ‘corrosion inside the bottle’. Probably caused by the previous hydro guy not drying my bottle when he was done… If you read this NG regularly, you’ll find out about line sizes and lengths. Check it out, and have fun! I hardly ever bottle anymore. mike – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -I have just been given two pepsi kegs and a CO2 tank . Are these what you call corny kegs?
