Difference Between Tint job and do it yourself??

Categories: Home Brew

Question:

What is the difference between a tint job done by those shops and a do it yourself one?? The price is the main difference and quality I think. But do they all use the same material?? I don’t think a shop will actually color your windows.

Uh, no.  These shops apply different shades and colors of solar film. Which one is good one do it yourself type?? Since a shop one cost more than $100 and a do it yourself one about $10+. It is sure nice to know about tinting windows…

A solar film shop will have cutting templates for nearly any car, like the difficult curved hatches on 84+ Corvettes.  Most shops use quality material and will guarantee their work against peeling or fading. There is nothing uglier than seeing faded, peeling, purple, home-applied solar film.  So, if you want to give it a try, at least purchase some good quality film and adhesive.  Also, clean your windows squeeky clean before applying.   And apply it to the inside of the window.   Eric Webb / Martin Marietta EPA National Computer Center Research Commons, 79 Alexander Drive, Bldg 4501 Research Triangle Park, N.C., 27711 Phone: 919-541-7896  Fax: 919-541-0028

No, from what I’ve seen around here there isn’t a lot of difference between tint shops and DIYs.  It isn’t that hard to do a tint job yourself if you spend the extra money for a top quality film and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.  Just because a shop gives you a warranty doesn’t mean squat.  I had the windows tinted on my ‘88 F250 soon after I bought it in ‘88. I got a lifetime warranty, but the shop was out of business by the end of ‘89.  They did a superior job on the tint and I haven’t had any problems at all with it. But, it wouldn’t make any difference if I did cause they ain’t around to fix it.
