What is Cara-pils malt?

Categories: Brewing Supplies

Question:

Marketing hype aside… Cara-pils typically refers to a very light crystal malt, around 6 Lovibond.  It improves head retention and adds some sweetness, without significantly darkening the color or adding caramel notes. —

Response:

That’s what I was looking for, a substitute! Cheers Mike. Josh

Response:

You are right of course.  Australian suppliers don’t generally know a lot about anything that isn’t crystal malt.  However, I’ll give a plug to: Malthouse Home Brewing (Western Australia) Greensborough Home Brewing Supplies (Victoria) who have been very helpful with specialty grains.  Both do know what cara-pils is.
