McAuslan Oatmeal Stout
Question:
Does anyone have a recipe for McAuslan Oatmeal stout? Its from one of our local Montreal (Canada) micros. It’s by far and large my favourite stout in the world… They say they use a mix of foreign and domestic barley, roasted barley, oatmeal, and 4 kinds of hops… but no details… John M.

Keep pressing them for those details. Most micros/brewpubs– okay, at least most of the ones I’ve been to here in Portland, Oregon –are not nearly so secretive about the grain bill/hops schedule. Become a regular and eventually you’ll (get too fat to waddle?…. Noooooo, not what I had in mind, at all! <grin) get a chance to meet the brewer. Start talking shop with him/her. I’ve never met a brewer yet who didn’t enjoy the chance to talk with someone who could at the very least understand most of the terminology/methodology. There’s a very good chance that you’ll get all the information you’ll need to formulate a reasonable clone. And, of course (don’t tell the brewer *this* part of your scheme!), once you’ve come up with what you feel is a winner, tell all of us here so we can also enjoy this local brew of yours! {:-) — –DAsh obvious with attbi)

I’d love to but there’s no brewpub, just a brewery… I don’t know who i could talk to . i used to know a guy who worked for them but he moved far away a while ago and i lost track of him.. he used to bring me jars full of thick yeast slurry, it was like custard, all yeast it seemed! fermented great John – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Keep pressing them for those details.
