Assume 8.5" in diameter and 25" in height. I would get something that could accommodate 26" to 27" of height to allow for disconnect space. Cheers, Mike

Just measured inside of a 5 cu ft fridge that I have and the height to the freezer tray is only 22 inches.  If I moved the freezer tray to the very top, then I would have about 29 inches in height.  The depth is 11 inches (to the ’step’ that covers the compressor) and width about 16, so I could fit one corny in this fridge, along with a 5 lb CO2 tank. Has anyone converted a 5 cu ft fridge this way? I heard someone say that he constructed a box out of plywood, well insulated, and attached it to the front of one of these fridges, which had the door removed.  So he basically extended the fridge out a couple of feet, to hold a few cornies.  Does anyone out there have experience with this? Jim

If you are talking about a dorm fridge, heck yeah!  I just modified mine to accomodate a corny.  I had to replace the door panel with a nice piece of flat PVC and then I unscrewed the freezer pan and bent it straight down.  It still had a stiff tube connected to it, so all that I could do was bend the pan down.  I wanted to flip it upside down, but Im sure that it wouldnt go. Ill post some pics of it at www.geocities.comthatebbrewery

Sorry, but you have put too much info on that page, or it has been accessed too many times and it down. Cheers, Mike

I just did something similar to mine.  I used a 4.4 cu. ft. fridge, and it’ll hold up to two cornies:  1 pin lock + 1 ball lock or 2 ball locks.  I had to add a 2 x 4 frame to the door and bend the compressor tubing down. I modified one myself because I was tight on space, and it was cheaper than a pre-built unit.  I don’t think it’ll hold a half barrel, though, like those will.  It also collects a lot of ice on its internal coils and will have to be defrosted every couple months.  I don’t know whether defrosting is necessary with pre made keg fridges, but I assume it isn’t.
