Question:

Anything with rum.<<

And there are only two kinds of rum: Mt. Gay and Myers’s.

Response:

At the risk of getting chastised by the don’t drink and boat crowd, whats you favorite boat drink? Would you share the recipe here? BTW, with the occaisional exception of a glass of wine or a beer with lunch, I never drink onboard unless I am on the hook for the evening. Looking forward to spending the remainder of the week aboard, hope everybody has a safe and enjoyable 4th. Tom

Here’s a true boat drink that I was introduced to a number of years ago while in the Bahamas.  It’s called Goombay Smash, and is something of a local favorite.  Goes like this: 1 Portion        Simple Syrup consisting of 1/2 cup sugar, 1 cup water. 84 ounces      Pineapple juice. 2 ounces        Lime juice. 20 ounces      Light Rum. 12 ounces      Coconut Rum Liqueur. 2 ounces        Pineapple Rum Liqueur. Pour all of the above ingredients into a one gallon jug, shake like hell, refrigerate, and prepare for damage control.  Warning:  This stuff goes down like fruit punch and by the time you realize its potency, it’s too late to do anything about it.  Bottoms up. Russ

What time are you serving?  I was possibly thinking Oroville this weekend. Bill

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – It’s a "Top Shelf Margarita" for me. I bit pricey, but yum-yum. Problem is when everyone else wants one. Recipe: 2 Shots Tequila 1 and 1/2 Shots Grand Marnier 1/2 to 3/4 Shot Cointreau 2 Shots Sweet & Sour Over ice, shaken, not stirred or blended. They go really great with beer-battered clams and beer battered Oreo cookies. And this weekend we’re having them during our Mexican Pot-Luck at Lake Oroville. Another good drink I haven’t had in a few years is a "Gorilla Tit" 1 Shot Bacardi 151 1 Shot Wild Turkey 1 Shot Jack Daniels Float 1 Shot Peppermint Schnapps Float Dash of 7-up Slam on bar, slam it back. I had this one in St. Thomas. I remember the first couple of ‘em, but that’s about it. Next day, I could not make a fist or wear shoes though??? And last, I always suggest Beer. You have to be very-very careful on this one though. I require that any beer that is brought near my boat have the most important quality of boat drinks there is, It must be a "wet beer". Everyone must know about my requirements on this one. Because I have yet to have anyone show up with a "non-wet beer". It can have funny names, be warm, frozen ,bottled, canned or be stored on a soaked towel, but it must be "WET"! You know what, now that I think about it, I might be wasting my time declaring my beer prerequisite…. Isn’t all beer wet??? Club soda with a twist of lemon, on-the-rocks. Nerdy, I know, but I just don’t care to go out on my boat UIA.<< Right.  Drinking in the slip after a day on the water is where the action

is. Unfortunately, I trailer to our fishing club. Then, I have to drive the rig back home. But then, it *might* be Miller Time. -Jeff

Any scotch fans here? I discovered an incredible 10 year old single-malt from western Scotland called Laphroiag (Pronounced La-Froyg).  It’s smokey, peatty and a little bit ‘o heaven right here on earth, laddie. My #2 is Glenfiddich – recently bumped from #1 by Laphroiag. Either one to be served straight up, or rocks. Of course, there’s always the standby Tanguray & tonic. Charlie

To this end – we keep the boat fridge stocked with those Poland Spring Sport Bottles, lots of Apple & Eve juice boxes … and – for a real thirst quencher – lots of fresh cut up watermelon!
