Confession in advance – what next?

Categories: Brew Pub

Question:

::: Well, there will always be things that you really like.  You have to decide that right now you need to put that aside for a while and concentrate on your weight loss (assuming that is your goal).  Sooner or later you will be able to have that favorite thing again.  And even while you are LCing, you can — every once in a while. However, Jan 1 is just two week ago, so it hasn’t really been that long. But still, you have friends coming,  you will be on the road — if all you do is have a couple of those beers, it would a bad thing.  Just get right back on induction when you get back and plan to go LC for a good bit to time so you can get it down.  It really does take some practice.

"It woudl be a bad thing".  I’m not so sure that having a few beers would be a bad thing.  I think what would be a ‘bad thing’ would be not going back to LC after having these beer.  I plan on living a long time and learning self-discipline is one of the toughest things for me.  However, I think that if I tell myself, "You cannot have a beer on a special occassion" will cause me to crave it even more on other days which will lead to a binge. Now, I’m not talking about having a beer every business lunch or even having a beer every other night, but I’m referring to the every once and a while occassions.   BTW, I’m going to have a couple of beers tomorrow night also since my best friend is showing up for a few hours.  I plan on taking the calories and carbs into my daily allowance and realize that I probably won’t lose any weight and might even gain a pound or two.  Guess what, on Sunday I’m going to drink water like a demon and get on my darn exercise bike for 1 hour.   Realize whatever you do is a choice.  I choose to loose weight and will do whatever it takes to get to my number.  The only person that can make me fail is myself — and trust me, that ain’t going to happen. hmm if it helps any, my husband had success with LC when he was on it before and he continued to drink Miller Lite, I believe it has fewer carbs than most beers. And now there is that new Michelob Ultra with only 2. something carbs in it.  But he was lucky, the alcohol didn’t stall him and he just counted the carbs. Now whether of not you’d classify these as "good" beers is another question :)

I’d try to change your mindset a little. "Your going to choose to eat non-LC" this is different then "I’m going to cheat". The only person that can make you fail on this WOL is yourself, choose not to fail.  Resuming induction is also a good choice to make :) Mike 230/222.5/180 – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’m going to be cheating next week also because we are going away for our anniversary and I want to enjoy every bit of our 5 year. but as soon as I get home from Estes park I’m going back on induction for 2 weeks but then my carbs hardly ever go over 20g so its not really a change. :o )

Response:

In November my husband and I went away for a 3 day weekend to celebrate our anniversary. I found eating lowcarb is easy outside the home. I planned on staying on it throughout our trip. I had one planned cheat which was a piece of cheesecake and some wine, otherwise, steaks, salads, seafood omelets, lobster, oh my god the food was wonderful and all lowcarb except for that cheesecake! I did not miss the carby stuff one bit! JMHO — Pat 265-230-140ish Started LowCarb 9-9-02

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Hello – Tomorrow is my last day on induction.  I’ve only lost one pound, but I’m not too discouraged.  (I haven’t been drinking enough water, I think.)  My confession is that tomorrow evening I’m going out of town with friends until Monday.  I know I’ll be lapsing.  In fact, I’ve already bought the 12-pack of Pilsner Urquel to bring along. My question is, when I get home should I go back on the induction program for three days to counteract the lapsing for three days?  I will watch my calories and make sure I don’t go above 10X my weight. And, since I’ve only lost one pound, maybe I should stay on induction for awhile.  It’s getting tough, though, because I get cracker cravings at night. Thanks for any advice/experiences. dutchie

dutchie, Why don’t you post a typical daily menu, including amounts and water consumption? Have you been measuring yourself or noticed your clithes fitting better? My good friend has been on ‘induction’ since april. DH and I since Oct., it doesn’t have to be only two weeks. Trina

Response:

Do you really have to go off plan?  If you ask me, this is a good time to learn how to do LC on the road! I don’t mean to sound like I’m beating up on you, though.  You need to do what you think is best for you.

Roger, and everyone else who answered, you did make me think.  Yes, I think I can go without potatoes or fries or sweets.  But I really really like good beer.  And I really miss it.  I haven’t had one since January 1, and I honestly think that’s the longest I’ve gone without a beer since I started college.  So I was going to allow myself to have a couple this weekend. Plus there’s a brew pub within walking distance of where we’re going, and that’s going to be hard to pass up. I know the difference between a craving and just wanting something because I like the taste.  It’s been easier to give up beer than wheat thins.  In fact, at the end of induction I’m no happier at the thought of no wheat thins than I was at the start – I didn’t outgrow the desire for them. But how do I deal with giving up something I really liked the taste of, or choosing to have some and then trying to control the damage? Man, I’m admiring all of you more every day!  Does it get easier?  Or, if I’m still having such angst after two weeks am I not cut out for this? dutchie

I think you should….since you are going off plan, you may undo the results of your induction, especially if you get too much sugar and start having cravings again. I don’t mean to sound like I’m beating up on you, though.  You need to do what you think is best for you.
