How tall is a 27" corny keg?

Categories: Best Homebrew

Question:

Spartanburg’s strap handle type tanks are 25 inches tall, the stacking-type (rubber top and bottom) are 1/8 inch taller. Ball or pin lock connections on these tanks would fit in your fridge. Hoff-Stevens, Sanke or Perlick taps would not fit.

Just being picky, but Perlick is a company, Hoff-Stevens and Sanke are types of taps, as are German Slider, European Sanke, etc.. With that in mind, Perlick makes a low-boy or low-profile (depending upon vendor) American Sanke tap that when placed on Pub-Style 5-gallon Sanke kegs (basically ball lock kegs converted to Sanke), the tap does not come above the height of the keg handles.  Even Wholesale cost for this tap is $35 though. Cheers, Mike

Response:

It should fit. My ball lock kegs are 25 3/4" to the top of the connectors. 26" would just slightly compress the radius of the gas line. My pin lock kegs are about an inch shorter.

I have 17 pinlock kegs.  There are at least two, and maybe 3, different heights involved . . . There are also a couple of different heights for fittings–my threaded fittings are probably half an inch shorter than the compressioin fittings hawk — Prof. Richard E. Response:

How tall is a 27" corny keg? The height of the keg may not be your only concern, you need to take the compressor into account. The compressor will limit the bottom surface area of the fridge and a keg may not fit. The best thing to do is go to your homebrew supply and ask if you could borrow a keg to see if it fits (damaged kegs are easy to come by). Good Luck!!

Connectors being the fittings on the hoses, NOT 25 3/4" to the top of the posts. The ball lock keg itself is 24 3/4" tall.

Response:

Pin lock kegs are larger in diameter and shorter in height than ball lock kegs. My pin lock kegs are 23" tall. Chris http://ibrewbeer.com – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Heh.  Silly subject line, I know.  It got your attention though. :-) I recently moved to a house with a small refrigerator in the basement. Here’s the thing: the refrigerator’s interior is *exactly* 27 inches high. Would it be possible to cram a corny keg in there?  I ask because I hear they are 27 inches tall, though at least one site I have seen says 26 inches.  Even if it would fit, would any room be left for the tubes?
