Guinness Recipe (creamy taste/feel)

| : | : Does anyone know if Guinness uses soured ale in their Guinness | : Draught? | : | : | : Yes they do. And that’s why it may be difficult to get the exact flavor | : in homebrew. I do fine with Dave Line’s recipe and Nitrogen. Remember | : that Guiness is great, but not the best Stout in the world (my | : opinion). | | Is too. ;) | Seriously, I’ve come close on flavor but never that creamy feel/taste. | Does anyone make a low-pressure nitrogen bottle which can be used with | a standard CO2 rig? I’d be willing to try it if it didn’t cost an arm | and a leg. Have you tried flaked Barley? According to St. Patrick’s Homebrew Supply folks this should give you a more creamy, head-retaining(sounds nasty) brew. As far as I’m concerned, Guinness is good for you, but I like Murphy’s as well. Also, my own cherry stout stands up to the competition. Yum. | Jack — Joseph Crowe

Any idea how they get the creamy taste/feel? This seems to be present even after all the foam rises from the beer, so I don’t think it’s due to the Nitrogen. On the other hand, that flavor and feeling doesn’t seem to be present in bottled Guinness Extra Stout. Any suggestions or recipes? It sounds like I may need to add kegging equipment to my all-grain home brewery. Any way to get the flavor of Guinness Draught in bottles at home? Thanks, Joel — Joel Bickford | Santa Rosa, CA
Dave Line’s recipe works fine, but you have to get a nitrogen set up.
